Allison’s Story
"Your body, your choice.”
One of our patients heard that from the father of her unborn child. You can almost picture him holding his hands up, giving a little shake of his head, and telling her it was her choice, as if to absolve him of responsibility of that decision.
Allison* had experienced miscarriage after miscarriage. Her most recent miscarriage felt especially emotionally devastating. Yet here she was: pregnant, not feeling as excited as she expected, and not receiving encouragement one way or another. Allison felt adrift in uncertainty.
That’s when the “what ifs” set in: What if she and her partner broke up? What if he’s not mature enough, or ready, to be a father? What if they can’t afford this baby? What if, what if, what it...?
That’s where the Modesto Pregnancy Center ministry is privileged to step into the conversation: What if you CAN do this? What if you have support? What if you can rest in knowing that temporary struggles do not have to define your forever?
Fathers play a vital role in the lives of their children long before they are born. While an unexpected pregnancy can bring uncertainty and fear, fatherhood should not be viewed as a burden to avoid, but as a privilege to embrace. Children need fathers who are willing to step forward with courage, grace, and commitment, even when the future feels uncertain. A father's presence, encouragement, and leadership can provide stability and hope during challenging circumstances. No parent is perfect, but God equips men to grow into the responsibility He has entrusted to them. By accepting the calling of fatherhood with humility and faith, men have the opportunity to become protectors, teachers, mentors, and examples of Christ's love to the next generation.
Will you be praying for the fathers in our community, including the fathers-to-be? May God give them the encouragement they need to value life and to desire a fuller life for themselves, one rooted in Jesus and bearing fruits for their children!
